We learned from our visit to the Dolhuys, that it used to be very common to put patients in an isolation room.
Psychotic people are generally speaking not more violent than other people. But what to do with the ones that are a danger to themselves and other people?
In the old days, they used to be put on chains or put in a hutch. OR, they would end up in a 'dolcel' - an isolation room.
This could be temporary, but it could also be for life .
Patients didn't have any rights.
Nowadays there are more strict rules for putting people in an isolation room. There should be an emercency situation, without any other options.
This is also the case for the admission of medicine.
We saw a movie in the ' Dolhuys' about a man being put in such an isolation booth:
We also experienced being in an isolation room ourselves, by entering one of the dolcells in the Dolhuys. This was a very impressive experience, also due to the story that was told by a femal voice about being in the dolcel. More video footage is still to come, to be continued!
